As a Christian what do you need to know about Islam?

It is very important for Christians to have knowledge about what is happening in the world around them. This knowledge will enable them to understand what is happening around them not only in the world , but in their own country, so that they can answer multitudes of questions that will be asked them. The Bible warns us against ignorance in 2 Corinthians 2:11: “in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” It also encourages us about knowledge in Proverbs 24:4: through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.

In the same way an understanding of Islam even if it is only a general idea helps us a lot in reaching out to Muslims with the message of Christ and to answer their questions about our Christian faith. As it is written, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.”

Do we as Christians hate Muslims?

A Christian cannot hate on the contrary hate is not found in the Christian law because the Lord commands us to love our enemies, to bless those who curse us, and to do good to those who despise us. On the basis of these three commands hate should have no place in the life of a Christian.

A Christian must have a vision of a muslim as a person living in the darkness of sin and having fallen under the yoke and burden of the harsh master the devil. He is no different than any other person who does not know the truth even if that person calls himself a Christian. For all of these unbelievers need compassion, love, and prayer from believers.

It is very important that we separate and distinguish between muslims and Islam. A Muslim is first and foremost a person whereas Islam is a political, social, and violent ideology . It gives as a religion the right to its followers the right to kill others if they are nonbelievers because they work as enemies of Islam or subjugate them to second-class status in society.

Islam can never function as a religion like other religions such as Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Confucianism, etc. because these religions concentrate on the relationship between a person and his Lord. They cause a person who believes to act ethically, morally, and spiritually; to be more peaceful, helpful, loving , and just. This is different from Islam which causes its followers to act with more enmity and injustice towards others and to become more reactionary and violent. Therefore it is impossible for Christians to work with Islam in the same way it may work with these other religions. They should not hate or dismiss it , but must be warned strongly to stay away from this dangerous ideology.

Does Islam call its followers to worship the same God which Christians worship?

The God which Christians worship is a God of love. I John 4:8 says ”God is love.” His love towards the world motivated Him to send His only Son to die on the cross to redeem the world. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Bible also says in 1 John 3:16 “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.” God does not call for sinful, evil man to do anything to earn his favor, but it says in Romans 5:8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Also it says in Ephesians 5:2 that “Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering.
